Powerball Jackpot Surges To $456 Million For Tonight’s Drawing

Time is running out to get a chance to win $456 million in Monday’s Powerball drawing.
The winning numbers will be drawn at 10:59 p.m. ET. Winning numbers are posted on the Powerball website.
If the jackpot winner chooses the cash option, they will receive $219.9 million.
There were no jackpot winners in Saturday’s drawing, which had an estimated prize of $437 million. Two players in California and Pennsylvania matched five numbers, which earned them $1 million.
The numbers for Saturday’s drawing were 7, 16, 19, 45 and 64 and the red “Powerball” was 25.
Tickets cost $2, except for Idaho and Montana where it is bundled with the “Power Play” option for a minimum $3 purchase. In states where the bundle is not required, players can add the “Power Play” option for an additional dollar. The option allows players to multiply non-jackpot prizes by 2, 3, 4, 5 or 10. The multiplier number is randomly chosen before the drawing.
The prize for matching five numbers with the Power Play option is always $2 million. The 10 times multiplier is not in play when the jackpot annuity exceeds $150 million.
The Powerball began in 1992. The first drawing was held on April 22 of that year, and it was only available in Delaware, District of Columbia, Iowa, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Wisconsin and West Virginia.
Now, 48 states and territories participate in the game.
In 2016, Powerball became the first multi-jurisdictional lottery game to reach a $1 billion jackpot. Three players split a $1.586 billion jackpot in the January 13 drawing.
In 2021, Powerball added a Monday drawing to its Wednesday and Saturday drawings.
The largest Powerball jackpot was $2.04 billion on November 7, 2022. The prize holds the world record for largest national lottery jackpot. A player in California won the prize.
The second largest jackpot was valued at $1.765 billion. Another player in California won the drawing on October 11, 2023.
The third largest jackpot was awarded during the January 13, 2016, drawing, with a prize of $1.586 billion.
A lucky player in Oregon won the fourth largest jackpot on April 6 of this year. The prize was valued at $1.326 billion.
The fifth largest jackpot was awarded on July 19, 2023. A player in California won $1.08 billion.
The last time a player matched all six numbers to win the jackpot was on August 19. The player in California won $44,300,000, with a cash option of $21,900,000.
There have been seven jackpot winners so far this year.
